FORMER LEESBURG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT CHARGED WITH DISRUPTION OF A SCHOOL FUNCTION
Lake County deputies, after receiving information from the Tavares Police Department, began investigating a social media post today that was sent to a student at Tavares Middle School. It was learned that the person who sent the post was a former student at Leesburg High School.
In his post, the former Leesburg High student indicated he was going to "shoot it up," without making a reference to any specific school.
Deputies responded to the male's home and made contact with him and his parents, at which time his home was searched and deputies verified he had no access to weapons. The 16-year-old admitted to sending the post via SnapChat and stated, "I was joking."
The juvenile was charged with Disruption of a School Function, a misdemeanor, and released to his parents.
He was listed by Leesburg High School as "unenrolled" due to an extended period of absence.
