Captain Michael W Marden 

was born in Orlando, Florida but moved to Lake County as a toddler and is a graduate of Leesburg High School. After high school, Captain Marden pursued a position as a correctional officer with the Florida Department of Corrections and began at Marion Correctional Institution in November of 1995.

Captain Marden completed his basic correctional officer training at Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Florida in 1996 and accepted a position at the Lake County Detention Center in 1997. While serving in the jail, Captain Marden completed his law enforcement crossover training through Lake Technical Center's Institute of Public Safety. In 1999 Captain Marden began his law enforcement career and served in various assignments including: Patrol, Bicycle Unit, Traffic Unit, Motor Unit, School Resource, Training, Special Ops, Underwater Search and Recovery, Honor Guard, Community Engagement, Casualty Assistance Team, and currently serves as the School Resource Bureau Commander encompassing Community Services, Traffic Motors/DUI, and of course, School Resource.

Captain Marden holds an Associates degree in General Studies, a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, a Masters in Criminal Justice Administration, is a graduate of the Florida Leadership Academy (8), St. Leo University's Command Officer Management course, University of Louisville's Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer’s Course (129th), FBI LEEDA's Leadership Trilogy, Leadership Lake County Class of 2017, and multiple other leadership and specialty training courses

Captain Marden's professional affiliations (past and present) include: Kiwanis Club of Mount Dora, Past-President, Regional Board member, Secretary, and President of the Florida Association of School Resource Officers, Leadership Lake County Board of Regents, Lake County Shared Services, Florida Impaired Driving Coalition, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida Lake County board, and has presented statewide and internationally on several subjects in the law enforcement field.

Captain Marden has volunteered for most of his career; some of the organizations include, March of Dimes, City of Leesburg, Special Olympics, Salvation Army, Lake Cares Food Pantry, Lake County Police Charities, Inc., and the Lake County Sheriff's Charities, Inc.

Captain Marden is married to his wife Kristy since 2008 who also serves as the Sheriff's Director of Administration. He has four children and 2 grandchildren. He and his family enjoy anything to do with water and the ocean and have a passion for public service.
