The Lake County Sheriff's Office garage is located
in Eustis on approximately 3 acres. There is a 4 bay shop, a
storage garage for emergency supplies, and old portable classroom
for office and storage space, a pole barn for boat and equipment
storage, a pole barn for seized vehicle storage and four large
maintenance tents for storage of emergency supplies.
These structures take up considerable space but
there are also 40-to 60 vehicles on the premises at any given time. These include
cars waiting for repairs, repaired cars
waiting to be picked up, deputies on vacation, spare units, emergency
vehicles for searches and logistics and seized cars waiting for
court disposition.
The Sheriff is quite concerned about emergency
preparedness. The shop stores a large number of generators,
water pumps, cots and blankets, some food supplies, portable
water trailers and many other items too numerous to mention.
Our latest project is a light armored personnel
carrier called a V-150. It was built for the military and is
an amphibious 4 wheel drive vehicle. Now that it is completed
it will be used on tactical situations by the S.W.A.T. team and has potential uses as a search and recovery vehicle.
The portable classroom is utilized as office space
for the shop and the Marine Unit of the Sheriff's Office.
The pole barn houses a portion of our Marine fleet.
The large 18 to 20 foot boats are used for daily patrols and
the larger 24 and 25-foot boats are used for extended searches.
The unit also has access to personal watercraft and inflatable
boats. The Sheriff's Office has a nationally recognized Dive
Team and the pontoon boat and step van are set up for their use.
A large motor home was bought used and was refurbished as a mobile
command post. It has complete facilities for two radio dispatchers
including teletype. The rear is set up for use by our hostage
negotiators.
Emergency generators stand at the ready for any
emergency. These are diesel powered, which
make them quite dependable. Four large tents are from the
military and are maintenance tents. They are aluminum framed
and have garage doors at each end. We use them to house seized
vehicles and emergency supplies.
The space at the end of the pole barn is our fabrication
and welding facility and the small garage is used for storing
emergency supplies such as food and cold drinks. |
