Jail Farm

The Corrections Bureau operates a full 10-acre garden, which has been very successful. Supervised inmates work the garden five days a week. The inmates are not paid to work in the garden, it is considered a privilege that can be taken away. In 1997 we grew a variety of vegetables and produced a combined total of 3,247 bushels. The produce from the garden has gone a long way towards reducing the jail food budget. Other non-profit organizations such as the Lake County Boys Ranch and the Leesburg Food Bank and other organizations such as the Lake County School System and the State Prison System were also provided with much needed produce.
