Sheriff's Citizen Academy |

.The Sheriff of Lake County, Gary S. Borders, is sponsoring a Sheriff's Academy. The purpose of the academy is to build a better understanding between citizens and the police through education. Participants will become familiar with the operations of the Lake County Sheriff's Office and gain a deeper understanding of the problems facing the police and the community. Students will tour various departments of the Sheriff's Office including the Lake County Jail, the Courthouse, Technical Services, and Communications. They will hear from specialized units such as the Dive Team, Investigations, bike and road patrol, mounted posse, along with S.W.A.T., driving, K-9 and firearms demonstration. The classes are scheduled each Thursday night for 13 weeks beginning May 13, 2008 and ending August 5, 2008. Classes will begin at 6 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. each scheduled night. The classes will be held at the Judicial Center, 550 West Main Street, Tavares. The academy is limited to 30 participants.
