Criminal Investigations Unit

Criminal Investigations along with Crime Scene Investigations, Special Investigations and Homeland Security make up the Lake County Sheriff's Office Investigations Bureau. There are 26 detectives, 2 sergeants and 1 lieutenant assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit. Detectives are organized into two categories, which are major crimes and general crimes.

Major Crimes consist of 11 detectives and 1 sergeant that are assigned to work all crimes against a person which would include all deaths, batteries, assaults, sex crimes, cyber crimes, and missing persons. Sex crimes include rapes and sexual assaults. These two areas are highly specialized because they frequently deal with very sensitive and violent matters.

The Cyber Crimes Unit has been developed to provide a safe electronic environment for the citizens and children of Lake County. The Cyber Crime Unit is actively pursuing predatory pedophiles who use the Internet to develop relationships with children for the purpose of luring them to a meeting. The Cyber Crime Unit also accepts complaints and conducts investigations into online child pornography.
General Crimes consist of 15 detectives and 1 sergeant who are specialized in general crimes. We have 4 detectives assigned to white collar crimes such as fraud and identity theft.

The county is divided into 11 areas with each area being assigned one of the remaining detectives. These detectives are responsible for all burglary, thefts, and other cases not otherwise assigned. Detectives are stationed at the South-Sub Station in Clermont and Lady Lake to better serve the citizens in Lake County.
